It‘s a good idea to run your central heating briefly during the summer months just to make sure that everything is working properly and to keep your pump from sticking. If you wait until winter when plumbers become very busy, your pump and you could both find yourselves stuck! Listen for noises when your heating system turns on. If you hear anything unusual, get in touch and one of our plumbers will come out and repair any problems before they become more serious.
Burst Water Pipes
A frozen pipe is an emergency, because this will cause it to burst causing thawed water to come pouring from the break.
The following steps describe what you should do as soon as you discover a frozen pipe:
1. Turn off the water supply: Turn off the main stop tap. You should find this under the kitchen sink or where the service pipe enters your home.
2. Turn off the stopcock in your cold water tank if you have one, it's usually found in the attic or loft. Open all your taps to drain the water from the pipes.

Every year, millions of Brits are putting themselves and their families at risk of serious danger or indeed death in the home by turning a blind eye to the hazards posed by unsafe gas appliances, according to Gas Safe Register which launched Gas Safety Week 2011 to highlight the problem.

Carbon Monoxide
CO is produced when there isn’t enough air for the complete burning of carbon fuels such
as gas, oil and coal, which causes an excess of poisonous fumes.
Protect yourself from the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning by following these simple steps:
- Only use a Gas Safe registered engineer to fit, fix or service your appliances
- Get your gas appliances regularly serviced and safety checked every year
- Fit an audible carbon monoxide alarm
- Check for warning signs such as lazy yellow flames or black marks or stains around the appliance.
- Know the six main signs and symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning – headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapse and loss of consciousness. If you believe you may be suffering from CO poisoning, you must immediately turn off all gas appliances and move yourself and any occupants to the outside air before calling a gas safe registered engineer.
